Girls Tennis Team

Coaches:

Head Coach: Rob Madison
Email: Robert_madison@dpsk12.org
Phone: 303-908-2342

Practice:

Practices are during the season, every day after school, from 3:10 to 5:30; the practices are always on the South High courts, on the east side of the school.

How to join:

We usually have tennis camps in the first two weeks of August for both boys and girls; however, this is subject to revision. To join the team, one only needs a physical, parent permission, and a payment fee of sixty dollars. All of this can be taken care of at the school office. South High Tennis would be an excellent choice for someone who is a beginner or intermediate tennis player because there will be a chance to learn the game from a dedicated staff (One Head Coach, two assistants) and a somewhat small team (usually from 15 to 20 members), allowing for lots of personalized instruction. South has had State qualifiers twice in the past three years. As for conditioning in the off-season, the best thing to do is simply play tennis! Unlike other sports, you do not need a whole team to work on your game. Find someone about your level and play as much as you can with him or her; and, you can also practice your serve or work on the backboard by yourself. Washington Park is a great place to do any of these things, or strike up a match with one of the regular players there.

Besides tennis itself, jumping rope, running, yoga and resistance training are all good ways of getting in shape for athletic tennis. As you may know, tennis has a funny scoring system so only smart people play it! South Tennis usually has the highest average GPA of the sports at South; which means coaches are aware of homework or AP concerns, and are somewhat flexible with practice schedules if students need some time to get work done.

Remember, tennis is a sport you can play your whole life, but playing for a team is a rare opportunity to take advantage of!
